"The land of sunshine and good wine"

Mendoza, the capital of the province of the same name, is world-renowned for several things: for lodging those preparing and returning from climbing Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, its incredible natural beauty, and its great wine.

Every March, at the beginning of the wine harvest festival, Vendimia, they crown the Queen of the Harvest Festival by choosing one of 17 beauty queens from each area of the province.  Wine is a huge part of life in Mendoza.  The Malbec grown and produced here is famous throughout the world.  Wine tourism is popular, and you can take any number of tours, visiting multiple wineries, touring their facilities, and tasting their wines.

A really nice, fun way to do this is to rent bikes from the town and cycle out to the wineries.  There are various trails or routes you can take, and the views you getting riding are incomparable to those from inside a dusty van.  Vineyards were meant to be experienced, not just seen.  At harvest time you can smell the fermenting grapes in the warm wind, and as summer ends, the vineyards change from fresh green to sunset colors: gold, orange, blazing red, deep purple.
